Your Health; A Stumbling Block in Ministry Growth?
There is a great deal of growing in the church today. Unfortunately not all growth has been beneficial growth. Yes beneficial that church membership is growing and the lost are coming to Christ. But growing faster than church membership are church members, and not in age, rather in width, girth and weight! This growth has not been beneficial and it generally leads to “The Big 3™; Obesity, Heart Disease and Diabetes” which has record numbers in the African American community and church. And members with the Big 3™ too often are sidelined with illness, fatigue, bed rest, hospitalization, and an inability to actively serve. Subsequently, our ministries are the biggest losers in this church growth.
However, in The Great Commission, Jesus says “GO therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit … Matt 28: 19.
GO, GO, GO! Are we disobedient to God’s call for us to GO, in every ministry, we are all called to minister outside the walls of our church building. Called to GO and be the individual church testifying to the world. Do we forsake God’s will and our ministry because we were too tired (not from abundant serving but from abundant gluttony), too sick, too stressed, too depressed TO GO! Have our sisters and brothers in Christ been forsaken while sick and shut-in when God told us TO GO but we couldn’t find a parking space near the hospital door, or the elevator was inoperable and we couldn’t take the stairs. Have Bible Classes suffered because of inadequate preparation due to fatigue and slothfulness? Have last minute Saturday night sermons from internet paraphrases gone forth as the Sunday Morning Word because we were unable to get on our knees and stay before God to hear what He would have us preach or teach.
In addition to our health creating an inability TO GO that hinders our ministry, more importantly;
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Cor. 6:19
All power that indwells us for ministry – to serve is through our submission to the Holy Spirit giving us knowledge and understanding to guide us in wisdom. BUT abusing and neglecting the Temple of Holy Spirit stifles its power in us. Solution: Plan to Get and Stay Healthy! Email Me for a Sample Plan.
